Excellent form and condition with a superb patina and rich color.

PHOTO_016.JPG

The untrained eye may attribute this form to England & although this exact form is taken from a Sheraton design of the period (see scan) the Flame Birch Inlaid central panel and the raised Crotch Mahogany Veneer on the top rail ~ a Boston area characteristic of the period~ clearly give this piece a Massachusetts or New Hampshire origin.

An American adaption of an English design.

PHOTO_016.JPG

Reeded lower sear rail, ring turned and tapered legs.
Frame showing tack/nail holes,.the outer edge of the rails are original however the inner rails have been partially re-railed, with newer corner blocks added.

Outstanding quality of carving on the center rail- from left to right this is one piece of wood ~ the Flame Birch Inlaid panel with crossbanding for a stunning contrast.
