Outstanding New York Continuous-Arm Windsor chair

Offered for sale completely as found in great crusty dry surface, this superb New York example is a true rarity in todays marketplace.

Form:

Thirteen spindles, incised continous rail supported by turned arm supports, a shaped "saddle" seat with "gutter"& raised "pommel" slight downward slope at front (typical New York), H' form stretcher with "ring" & "bulbous" turnings and nicely "splayed" (& reduced) legs, the upward  movement of the "hand holds" is particularly nice.  The seat is of one piece and the tops of the legs which protrude it are "wedged"

Dimensions:

Height 34"/ Width of seat at front 17" Depth of seat 15 1/2" Width between arm/curves at widest point 20 1/4" Height of legs 13 3/4" Width of crest rail 1" Width across stretcher 16" Height of turned arm supports 9 1/2"

Materials /Woods:

Continuous-Arm ~ (looks to be) OAK/  Seat (looks to be) PINE / Spindles (either MAPLE or HICKORY (barely any suitable area to examine that is not covered in paint)

Condition:

Sturdy & tight joints/Minor height loss.  Estimating between 1" & 1 1/2".  Old repairs very well done and inconspicuous at both sides above the second smaller spindle-where the bend of the bow becomes the arm which is a typical area for damage on this form (at each side) visible but not obtrusive.  Minor dings and cracks to seat.  Some "flattening" to side of one bulbous turned stretcher (due to the paint it is hard to know if this is wear/loss), due to age and shrinkage there is potrusion where some spindles and tops of legs protrude from the holes- (obviously this is normal movement due to age)  a small touch up to the top rail/crack at spindle hole.

Surface:

Dry and crackled/observing this chair in various worn areas reveals a light(mint) Green, minimal amounts visible (probably the original coat) then a darker Green covered by a crackly Brownish color ( see close up images for accurate color). The underside of the seat shows the darker green around the top of the legs at seat. (see image)
